I have not raised funds for Huckleberry Youth Programs and the San Francisco AIDS Walk since 2019, due to the pandemic. This year, I'm back at it, hoping to raise $1,000 for Huckleberry's youth clinics. This is a very special year because Huckleberry is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of our Adolescent Health Services!
For three decades, Huckleberry has provided over 180,000 youth in the Bay Area with a continuum of sexual, reproductive, mental health, and primary medical services, along with health education workshops in schools, empowering youth to make more informed decisions about their health.
Our health clinics in San Francisco and Marin Counties offer comprehensive, age-appropriate, culturally-sensitive and responsive adolescent health services for youth (ages 12-25) at no-cost to increase access to affordable, high-quality health care. In 1992, our crisis shelter, Huckleberry House, received the first HIV prevention grant for a runaway youth shelter, and used it to open the Cole Street Youth Clinic at 555 Cole Street in the Haight- Ashbury. Cole Street Youth Clinic is still one of the most accessed youth clinics in San Francisco.
As the Supreme Court challenges the rights enumerated in Roe v. Wade, Huckleberry will continue to support the rights of individuals to make their own health decisions. Our clinics provide a safe space where all youth can access birth control, sexually transmitted infection and HIV testing and treatment, HIV prevention medication, primary, reproductive, and sexual healthcare, urgent care, gender-affirming care, and mental health services.
