Hi everybody,

I walked in my first AIDS Walk in 1988. A couple of months later, I also started volunteering for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Now, 32 years later, the Quilt has returned to San Francisco and become part of the National AIDS Memorial. I am walking as part of their team, and hope you will join me in supporting their work.

The National AIDS Memorial and the Quilt help ensure that the lives of people who died from AIDS are never forgotten. Those of us who remember the darkest days of AIDS are getting older, and feel a responsibility to share the stories of that time: of the friends, family, and colleagues we lost, but also of the community's response to the overwhelming challenges that the epidemic. As we face a new global pandemic, there are lessons to be learned from how communities came together to take care of our sick, mourn and memorialize our dead, fight for funding and medications, and battle fear, silence, discrimination, and government intransigence. The National AIDS Memorial and the Quilt are dedicated to preserving those stories. They honor history, and provide hope, compassion, community, love, and healing.

I hope you will join me in supporting their important work.

WIth love and thanks,
