Hello,

It's that time of year again. And yet, this year is unlike any other -- in the midst of a global pandemic and international civil rights uprising, AIDS Walk is going virtual. ALRP needs your help to ensure that individuals living with HIV/AIDS in the Bay Area have access to legal services. These services help ensure access to housing, government benefits, immigration/asylum, end of life planning, and so much more.

ALRP's primary areas of focus, including housing, immigration, and access to health services, are critically important social justice issues that disproportionately impact people of color. In 2019, 56% of ALRP's clients identified as a person of color. ALRP’s oldest program is our Outreach Project, which works to ensure that ALRP’s services are available to underserved communities within the HIV community, including people of color, women, and people with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

The current pandemic is an especially great threat to our most vulnerable neighbors, including thousands living with HIV/AIDS. All relevant local, state and federal public health agencies have defined people with compromised immune systems as “very high-risk." That is why, this year, our community is redoubling efforts to support our clients through emergency COVID-19 relief efforts and innovative services. ALRP has remained open during the pandemic. We've coordinated with sister organizations to advocate for necessary court closures, disbursement of COVID019 emergency financial support, and virtual training for both clients and care providers. I have personally travelled to client's homes to: finalize a settlement agreement in an eviction lawsuit that resulted in the client remaining housed; execute a will for a client in the end stages of life; notarize documents necessary to obtain crucial government aid.

All this is to say, I know you are being pulled in countless directions to donate resources to various worthy causes, but I hope that you find that ALRP is one of those causes. The funds we raise via the AIDS Walk directly enable ALRP to continue offering direct legal services and competent legal referrals to some of the Bay Areas most vulnerable populations. On behalf of our community, thank you for supporting me in this critically important effort.

In solidarity,
