When I was 25 and tested HIV+, I was told I wouldn't live to see thirty. Fooled them. But now the challenges are just as formidable now because nobody ever expected to have a geriatric HIV patient we just weren't supposed to survive this long.

Long-term survivors of HIV studies have shown that biologically have aged 13.5 years beyond what their actual physical age is.. so I look darn good for 70½, don't I?

But seriously, not only are we experiencing aging like everyone else it's compounded with having HIV in our bodies for a long period of time and nobody knows exactly what that's going to look like. nobody knows what years and years and years of medications are going to do to the body of a 57 year old who's biologically 70½.

Thankfully, the SF AIDS Foundation has has formed a new area of service called "Aging Services" because almost 70% of people in San Francisco living with HIV are over the age of 50. and our needs are very different than they were 20 years ago they're different than they were 10 years ago. so your donation to my virtual AIDS what this year will help fund the services and help create programs that are critical to living full and productive lives as people living with HIV.
