I’ve lived in Mission Bay/Dogpatch for almost 5 years now, and it’s impossible to separate my idea of San Francisco from UCSF’s presence and dedication to research.
Having grown up in Rochester, Minnesota (and the son of a 17+ year Mayo Clinic employee), I cannot separate my memories of my hometown from Mayo's/the medical world’s presence there either.
I don’t work in any medical or research field, but a poster for this walk at my neighborhood’s UCSF gym convinced me to join, to walk with the UCSF team, and to start contributing something to both San Francisco and the world of health/research.
I have no memories of my uncle Dave, who passed away from AIDS when I was only a year old, but I hear of his kindness every time my parents tell his stories.
So I’d like to dedicate this to Dave, my parents, and our family, too.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your donation.
