It’s that time of year again! AIDS Walk 2024 is upon us on July 21, 2024, and I'm asking for your support of the National AIDS Memorial team. I'm asking you to please consider helping me reach my goal of $3,000. A donation of any kind would not only be deeply appreciated but would be a meaningful gift to an organization I love.
I’ve served as a Board Member of the National AIDS Memorial for the past six years. It's been a privilege to watch the organization continue to educate people that the story of AIDS is a vital part of the greater struggle for social justice throughout history.
To those who have generously donated in the past, thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to raise awareness for this event. Because of that support, we've been able to achieve:
- The largest funding to date for the Pedro Zamora Youth Scholarship Program (!!!)
- Additional opportunities for the AIDS Memorial Quilt to get out of the warehouse and into classrooms and communities across the world as a teaching tool, in addition to monthly Quilt repair workshops to continue to provide public access to the Quilt.
- Commitment to community storytelling through our Surviving Voices project, which recently focused on the Latinx Community and AIDS - the latest chapter in this multi-year documentary project. This series will be shown at the US and International Conferences on AIDS in New Orleans and in Munich this year.
- Investments in physical improvements and plans for an even larger footprint nationally.
I have made it a personal mission of mine to champion our youth activist programs as we confront not only one but two major pandemics in our lifetimes. The last few years have continued to show how fractured systems impact inequitable health and social justice outcomes. They're part of the same fight -- and the story of HIV/AIDS activism is a vital tool as we inspire new generations of activists. Any donation to the AIDS Memorial Team will help us continue to support these programs and our next generation of scholarship recipients.
If you are not able to give at this time to prioritize other giving, I would love for you to join me on July 21st!
Thank you in advance!
