This year, I am passionately raising funds for the National AIDS Memorial team at AIDS Walk San Francisco. The event will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2023. AIDS Walk SF holds immense significance as it aids in fundraising for the 10-acre National AIDS Memorial in Golden Gate Park and the renowned AIDS Memorial Quilt.
In 2022, we commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Quilt with a historic outdoor display in Golden Gate Park, featuring over 3,000 hand-stitched panels. The Quilt continues to grow and now encompasses more than 50,000 panels, each measuring 3 feet by 6 feet. It stands as the largest folk art creation worldwide, fully digitized for viewing on our website: aidsmemorial.org/quilt.
Tragically, since the onset of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic, over 40 million lives have been lost to this disease (including 780,000+ Americans). Currently, 38 million individuals are living with HIV/AIDS, of whom only 28 million are receiving vital therapy.
Having dedicated two decades of my life as a volunteer at the AIDS Grove, I am incredibly honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the National AIDS Memorial. Through the Memorial, we strive to impart the profound narrative of HIV/AIDS to future generations, so that we may avoid repeating the same mistakes.
The funds I raise through the AIDS Walk this year will directly contribute to the National AIDS Memorial's initiatives. I humbly request your assistance in helping me achieve and surpass my fundraising goal of $5,000. Your support will not only benefit the National AIDS Memorial and its programs but also hold immense personal significance for me.
