This will be my second year raising funds for AIDS Research. If you visited this page last year- Thank you - your support for last year’s campaign blew me away. Ambitiously, my goal is to match last year’s amount.
I’ve lived in Dogpatch/Mission Bay for almost 6 years now, and it’s impossible to separate my idea of San Francisco from UCSF’s research presence here.
Having grown up in Rochester, Minnesota (and the son of a Mayo Clinic employee) I cannot separate the memories of my hometown from the medical world’s presence there, either.
I don’t work in any medical or research field, but last year a poster for this walk at my neighborhood’s UCSF gym convinced me to join, to walk with the UCSF team, and to start contributing something to this city and the world of health research.
I have no memories of my uncle Dave, who passed away from AIDS when I was very young, but I hear of his kindness every time my parents tell stories about him.
Dave was a Stage Manager for the Santa Fe Opera, and travelled for productions as well- including a season at the Kennedy Center. He loved the people he worked with and the culture of the performing arts industry. He was 36.
I’m dedicating this walk to Dave, my parents, and our family.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your donation.
