Wait…Goths outside during the daytime? Why?
Team SF Goth was born in 1999 as a way for the SF Goth community to prove the news media wrong in having branded all black-clad as being ‘trenchcoat mafia’ murderers in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre.
In fact, goths all over the world made a show of community servitude in an attempt to be seen as just as charitable, caring and giving as anyone else who is not gothic.
Some of Team SF Goth’s members have lost dear ones to the AIDS pandemic, so for many team members over the years, being part of Team SF Goth has been a personal journey as well as a community service.
Team SF Goth immediately became a welcome sight at the annual AIDS Walk, with people each year asking to take their picture with us, and asking if they can buy a team shirt.
Since 1999, Team SF Goth has helped to raise over $70,000 for the SF AIDS Foundation to benefit multiple organizations around the Bay Area serving those living with HIV/AIDS.
Although the AIDS Walk has been virtual in 2020 and in 2021 due to a new pandemic (SARS-COV-2), Team SF Goth has continued to represent and raise money online, and as of 2022, the Walk resumed as both an in-person and a virtual event.
As long as AIDS remains uncured, Team SF Goth plans to do our part to raise money and show up each year for the annual AIDS Walk.
